When Ann Rock and Bridget Reckless met, they instantly hit it off as friends. They had been introduced through a different music project, and they were able to get know each other’s music styles, experiences, and talents. Along with their growing friendship, they knew they wanted to work together in their own band.

 

Ann Rock, being the business savvy and organized person that she is, had already had a vision about the route she wanted this project to go. Bridget fell in love with the idea on the spot; A rock band formed of women, but not out of disrespect to men. This was to be an uplifting, confident idea that would inspire all musicians to follow their dreams and make honest, organic music. The encompassing idea is that everyone can be a super babe in their own right.

 

Being very inspired by The Runaways, Ann and Bridget originally envisioned an all female 4-5 piece band. As time went on, the duo had trouble finding musicians that matched their level of seriousness and passion for what would be The Super Babes. To keep busy the two would learn cover songs and take small gigs to make a few bucks and have some fun. Eventually their souls were simply malnourished, and they needed to create. No more waiting around for the right band additions, no more waste of time auditioning people who were not committed... it was time the two took action.

 

Ann and Bridget began creating more than just original songs. They formed a career path and a brand. An all DIY project from packaging their own merchandise to extending products in their Rock and Reckless line (including hand made jewelry, skin care, lip balms, vintage clothing collections, and more). They quickly learned that The Super Babes would continue as a rock duo. As both are open minded to what the future may bring, they are happy creating music as a duo, keeping a raw,organic sound that is influenced by their two very different influences and styles.

 

Ann grew up in the presence of many great drummers, including her own father, who definitely pushed Ann to play. As she grew a bit older she fell in love with it and was very thankful her father had given her the motivation to stick with music. It was in this time she was introduced to Youngstown, Ohio’s local rock legends of Left End. The drumming style of Patsy Palumbo and the attention grabbing vocals and stage presence of Dennis T Menace drew her in and she knew she’d one day make a life and career of music and drumming. She was also captivated by the stylings and sound of bands such as Led Zeppelin, KISS, The Who, and The Ramones; all of these plus her two music degrees (performance and education), drum core, marimba studies, and multiple American and European tours with varied bands all contribute to forming her own unique style. Her timing is impeccable and even her song writing is percussive within the melodies. She is definitely the ‘Rock’ of The Super Babes.

 

Bridget Reckless got her name through Ann actually. Originally a silly nickname that summed up her ‘wild child attitude’, would turn out to stick. This was also a turning point for The Super Babes decision to keep the band a duo, as they realized how great their names went together!

Bridget also had an early start in music, with her memories reaching all the way back to making up theatrical songs on the kindergarten playground. They may have only been about defeating the task of the monkey bars, but her passion was always there. She was always singing made up melodies, writing stories and poems, and would soon enough start writing song lyrics. She approached her parents at age 14 about getting a guitar for Christmas so she could learn to accompany herself when singing. With roots in pop music, choir, and theatre, taking up guitar would soon expand her musical influences. She soon enough fell in love with many singer-songwriters, rock and roll, and even soul music. Vocally, she took a huge early interest and liking to artists such as Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Tina Turner (just to name a few), while structurally she was a sucker for a catchy hook and pop progressions. Mixing these styles with her love of theatrics she started exploring the artistry of musicians such as Prince and Lady Gaga. Bridget’s vast influences from Foo Fighters to Adele to Broadway productions show throughout her melodic writing styles and strong vocal range. After graduating college, she focused more on music and songwriting as a career, playing out to make extra money and trying to get her voice heard. Eventually craving more than the acoustic sound, she was eager to start a rock band, and meeting Ann at the time she had, well it seemed like fate.

 

Taking bits and pieces from each member’s strengths and influences, they have confidently come into their own unique sound as a band. Although one could say The Super Babes is a rock and roll band, these fierce women don’t want to let that fool anyone. There is something for everyone, each song a varied blend of genres and sounds. With a stage presence and chemistry to match their fierce style, you’re sure to be inspired,uplifted, and energized after catching The Super Babes at a live show.
